Principal’s Corner

Dear Lord,

Thank you for our friends and family and all you do to keep us safe and happy. Thank you for this blessed day. Please help us to be role models to lead and guide and show that you created us all in your image.

In your name we pray.

Sell Tickets after Masses

Below are sign up links to sell raffle tickets to parishioners after parish Masses at DR, Holy Trinity, and OLP.  Parishioners are usually very generous and desire to support our school. Student sellers should wear DR red polos so that they are easily identified.

New to our school day are recitations.  A recitation is the act of reciting from memory before an audience.  Each class is currently working on a recitation. The content for a recitation can be a prayer, scripture, a part of history, or a poem.

Why are we doing this?

1. Recitations are a hallmark piece of classical education.

2. Classical education isn't just about making students college and career ready; it is about forming students into a certain kind of person-the person God made them to be (virtuous); recitation is a tool towards that end.

3. Students are bombarded by negative, deconstructive messages all day long; recitation gives scheduled opportunity for beautiful words. More important is what these beautiful words do to us when taken to heart. They transform.

4. Recitation helps turn the information offered by the teacher into formation of the student.

Benefits Of Recitation

Recitation goes hand-in-hand with memorization. The act of standing and reciting poems or historical information cements that information in your brain. It also provides other valuable skills. Recitation can:

·       Strengthen communication skills

·       Develop solid presentation techniques

·       Provide a strong foundation for later rhetoric-level skills

Benefits Of Memorization

Memorization can:

·       Provide a rich vocabulary

·       Train the brain for critical thought process

·       Strengthen the brain

·       Build complex language patterns

We will have our first running club practice on Thursday, September 8th.  We will have a K-4th grade team and a 5th-8th grade team.  They will practice at Boulder Park at 1210 E. Boulder (meet by the playground equipment).  We will begin at 3:15 and end at 4:45. Please have your athlete wear running shoes with comfortable clothes (they may change in the bathroom after school).  We are hoping that we will be able to have the athletes run to Boulder Park, however, for the first practice we need to see our participation numbers to make sure that we can safely achieve that.

FOOD PANTRY- This week we need jiffy mix, cereal, tuna, cream of chicken and cream of mushroom soup, as well as peanut butter & jelly and canned fruit.

We are still looking for recess volunteers!  If you are available, contact me please!

Shot Records for School

Just a reminder that all students in grades PS-8 must have an updated shot record on file with us.

We have sent out notices to all families that are missing any parts of their shot records. Please keep in mind once those notices have been sent, we have 14 days to receive your updated shot record to show proof that your child has received this shot.

If you decide not to have your child receive a shot, we will need you to come into the office and sign off the Personal Exemption.

Thank you for your quick attention to this matter.
