Principal’s Corner

My Lord,

Help us to get through this class smoothly.

Let all distractions slip away so that we may study the world you created at its hard work.

We thank you for allowing each and every one of us to be here.

We praise and thank you.

St. Albert the Great, pray for us.

Written by Prayer Warrior, Alyssa Warren, grade 8

A bit of context, St. Albert the Great is the patron saint of scientists. He was one of the first to believe that religion and nature can coexist.

Prayer Warriors

Mr. Petrie, 8th grade science teacher here at DR, sponsors a leadership program, developed by him, for our 8th graders. The 8th grade attends this class monthly.  A spiritual component of his program is the Prayer Warriors.  Students are encouraged to submit a prayer that speaks to them. They may use someone else’s prayer, amend someone else’s prayer, or create their own.  Thank you, Alyssa and Mr. Petrie, for practicing our Core Value of leadership!

New Theme Song!

This morning our 8th graders revealed our theme song for the year at our Friday assembly.  They have chosen New Day by Danny Gokey.  It is a perfect complement to our theme of hope. I am so proud of these school leaders-great work, 8th grade!

Newish Program!

Students in grades K-8 will use the iReady reading and math program again this year.  This program is new-ish because this year because we have purchased licenses for each student instead of using the program through a third party (which we did last year). iReady is a high-quality, research-based program designed for all learners.  The purpose of i-Ready is to provide personalized instruction and support the needs of all learners. i-Ready supports teachers as they plan instruction, set goals with students, and assess learner progress. iReady does not replace classroom instruction and is not a math or reading curriculum. It supplements and supports the good things that are happening in the classroom.  Students will spend one day of computer class working in iReady each week.

Our DR Festival is this Saturday.  This is a fun family event with a live band, food trucks, kids' games, and a beer garden.  Invite your friends and family!  We still have items and volunteers needed.  Please go to: to sign up.

We have a running club! We will have our first running club practice on Thursday,  September 8th.  We will have a K-4th grade team and a 5th-8th grade team.  They will practice at Boulder Park at 1210 E. Boulder (meet by the playground equipment).  We will begin at 3:15 and end at 4:45. Please have your athlete wear running shoes with comfortable clothes (they may change in the bathroom after school).  We are hoping that we will be able to have the athletes run to Boulder Park, however, for the first practice we need to see our participation numbers to make sure that we can safely achieve that.

We began our 5th-8th grade volleyball practices this week.  Volleyball practices will be Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday until after Labor Day weekend and games begin.  I will have a game schedule in a week.  The fee is $75.00 and you can send it in to the front office.  All athletes need to have a current physical form on file.  Please note that this year we will again be entering the tunnel door for all practices and games.  Please contact me if you have any questions.

Did you know that we have a food pantry at our parish?  Our food pantry has been helping people that need a little extra grace extended to them since 1969.  Our food pantry is supported entirely by our parish and school. We serve 75+ families twice each month.  It is a school tradition for our students to bring in non-perishable food each week by Thursday to their classrooms. They will then be collected by our awesome 8th graders before Mass and the students then take items up with the gifts to be blessed.  I will be publishing what our needs are each week.  But we honestly can use anything non-perishable that is sent in.  This week we need jiffy mix, cereal, tuna, cream of chicken and cream of mushroom soup, as well as peanut butter & jelly and canned fruit.

Catholic Mothers of Faith (CMF)

We are a community of mothers, stepmothers, adoptive mothers, foster mothers, grandmothers, sisters, aunts, teachers, caregivers and friends; stay at home, working or retired. This ministry strives to foster a community of faith, family and fellowship in support of our vocation as mothers in imitation of our Blessed Mother. What a better way than to have mothers help build-up our DR Community. Mothers can do all things through God; we encourage, share, pray and work together in the glory of our Lord. Bring a woman, a friend or family and rejoice with us. CMF is led by a team of women who have felt the call to reach out to other women through this ministry.

Our first planning meeting is scheduled for Friday, September 9th, 3:15pm. We invite all mothers to get involved! Anyone interested is welcome to email me, Veronica Frias, at or to give me a call/text at 719-675-0564.

School Children’s Choir (called the St. Michael Choir)
